Welcome to my Homepage

I am a Libran, having born (unfortunately?) on October 15. One astrologer told me that all October-born people would weigh the pros and cons in the scale and lose the opportunities that come their way! (How true!) He further predicted that there would be a plethora of such instances of missed opportunities in every Libran's life. Mine was no exception. In case you're curious to know of such misses, near misses and loses, read my short stories. They are true incidents - heartrending and poignant for me, but it will be hilarious and funny for you, for I have spiced them with a mild coat of humor. Read Written Words – for it is all about my pursuit in literary field.

Site Updates

I was always curious about the old custom and practices that existed in North Malabar, now part of Kerala, and did extensive research on the subject.  It is on this theme my novel 'A Snake Called Ego' is based. Read all about it as well as all the strange and sometime evil practices followed till the early twentieth in Malabar, in the Current Project.

About Calicut

The word Calicut is the anglicized version of the Malayalam name Kozhikode derived from koyil (Palace) Kodu (Fortified). It was the most important coastal city of Malabar, and a leading trading centre for spices on the west coast of India during the medieval period. It was ruled by the Zamorin dynasty. In the year 1498 Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed at Kappad, about 25 km from Calicut city. This was a major event in the era of European Discoveries, because it opened up a new sea route from Europe to India.

Finding my Roots

I belong to the famous Poolakkal taravad of Calicut, in Kerala, South India. Taravad means (in the local dialet), an ancestral home, or a joint family . In case you wonder what is so queer about a joint family click on Genealogy where you will learn more about Taravad.
